Exercise Equipment for the Fire Stations
Statistically, heart attacks are the No. 1 killer of firefighters nationwide. Whether they are professional, paid-on-call, or strictly volunteer, it makes no difference in the end result. The Appleton Fire Department does have a comprehensive fitness program in place. Firefighters in Appleton are required to meet physical fitness thresholds annually (affectionately called ‘hup-twos’ by the crews) and do so with vigor.
The need arises in the replacement of equipment. While maintained and serviced by the firefighters, the reality is that our exercise equipment is heavily used and outdated. The replacement of this equipment is at the bottom of the priority list and not fully covered in the fire department’s budget each year.
The Friends of the Appleton Fire Department supports the means to replace and upgrade exercise equipment for our firefighters.
